How to Reset Your Wi-Fi Router (Without Losing Your Settings)

When your Wi-Fi keeps dropping, a reset fixes it more often than not. There are two kinds, and the difference matters.

A reboot is safe: unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and give it two minutes to come online. This clears memory and reconnects to your provider. Try this first.

A factory reset wipes everything — your network name, password and any custom settings. Only use it if a reboot fails. Hold the recessed reset button for about 10 seconds, then set the router up again from scratch.

Still dropping? The problem is usually placement or your provider, not the router.
