How to Backup Your Files (The Easy Way)

Most people lose files not to hackers, but to a dead drive or a lost phone. A backup takes minutes to set up and saves you once.

Follow the 3-2-1 rule: three copies of anything important, on two different types of storage, with one kept somewhere else. In practice that means your computer, an external drive, and a cloud service.

Turn on automatic backup — Windows File History, macOS Time Machine, or your cloud provider. Manual backups get forgotten.

Then test it. Restore one file today. A backup you have never restored from is only a hope, not a plan.
